Imaging of Carotid Artery Stenosis. Edited by B Schaller. pp. 273, 2007 (Springer-Verlag, Vienna, Austria). {euro}198.00 ISBN: 9783211323328

This book extends to over 270 pages divided into five sections: (i) imaging examination techniques for the carotid artery, (ii) specific pathological problems in carotid artery imaging, (iii) imaging to therapy in carotid artery stenosis, (iv) therapy and carotid artery imaging and (v) imaging in carotid artery stenosis: prospects to the future. The book is nicely produced, covers the basic facts extremely well and has rather nice conclusions and take-home message sections at the end of most of the chapters. There are excellent chapters on applications of positron emission tomography imaging and carotid artery disease, as well as on plaque morphology and imaging of plaque morphology, and the book is generally concise and extremely readable. The only problem really is the reasonably large number of competing texts in this area, at least one of which has several chapters by the same authors, which might make potential buyers consider the investment rather more carefully.
