This is another of the excellent series of medical radiology books from Springer Verlag that is edited by Professors Baert and Sartor. This book aims to provide a complete and concise overview to people using the new multislice CT systems and I have to say I think it does an extraordinarily good job of it. The first four chapters of the book deal with the concepts, theory and design of multislice CT scanners, the problems associated with radiation dose contrast delivery and the visualization of large imaging data volumes. This technical section is brief, extremely concise and very well informed and I actually greatly enjoyed reading it. It is then followed by a series of applicational sections, with four chapters on imaging the brain, three on head and neck, six on chest and eight on abdomen. Each of these appears to be written by an expert in the clinical area with significant experience in the use of multislice CT. I would not have claimed to have read all of them but have read a good number of them in detail and they appear to be uniformly well written, well laid out and knowledgeable. They are also extremely well referenced. I am currently suggesting this as the standard book on CT for our radiography students and it is sitting on my bookshelf next to the CT scanner, since I consider it to be an invaluable reference work. If you are looking for something to help you get to grips with the new multislice systems, this should definitely be on your shopping list.
