This is one of those books that goes further than its modest title suggests. It presents in quiz style 95 images, each with relevant questions on interpretation, diagnosis and management. Examples range from simple fractures and surgical emergencies to more complex imaging procedures encountered in common practice. The answer to each image is given over the page and usually goes well beyond the initial question, extending into points of further investigation and management, often with examples that include photographs of the relevant operative specimens. The book therefore teaches clinical surgery through the medium of imaging, an entirely laudable objective.
The only relative deficiency is an almost complete lack of interventional radiology. Percutaneous abscess drainage would not have been out of place and recommendations for further imaging for tumour staging tend to be either vague or limited. The chosen examples are, however, generally relevant to common practice and the reproduction, given the inexpensive format, is entirely adequate. Most trainee surgeons would find this book helpful. It is heart-warming to see that the radiology has been provided by two specialist registrars, both with dual qualifications.
