This 220 page book covers the subject of vertebroplasty from basic theory through technique and application. It begins with sections on the history and early development of the technique, the implications of specific spinal anatomy biomechanical considerations and the role of the technique in the treatment of osteoporosis. There are careful guidelines for patient evaluation and selection and a detailed section on procedural technique for vertebroplasty and for balloon kyphoplasty. There are excellent chapters on dealing with difficult lesions, possible complications and how to start a clinical vertebroplasty practice.
Overall this very much a bible for those involved in the art of vertebroplasty written by some of the leading experts and pioneers in the field. It is profusely and extremely well illustrated and is an absolute essential purchase for anyone undertaking or intending to undertake vertebroplasty in their clinical practice. The authors should be heartily congratulated on this excellent and seminal reference.
