Pediatric Neuroimaging. By A J Barkovivh, pp. xxiii+85, 2000 (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Philadelphia, PA) ISBN 0-7817-1740-X

This book has become a standard text for those working in paediatric neuroradiology. The 3rd edition builds on the success of the previous editions.
A welcome addition to this edition is in the initial contents, which include an extensive list of disorders by chapter and page for quick reference.
The format of this edition has changed little except that the contents of Chapter 4 now include injuries to the brain and spine.
The text clearly outlines current theories relating to the aetiology of disease processes seen in the paediatric age group, highlighting how the immature brain differs, not only in the normal situation but in the response to disease. The numerous images appropriately illustrate the text and are well annotated.
This book is essential reading for all involved in paediatric imaging and should be available in all departments providing imaging services to children. The clear explanation of techniques, normal appearances, aetiology and imaging appearances of disease processes make it an excellent text for the trainee in radiology and paediatric neonatology. It is highly recommended.
