Transfontanellar Doppler Imaging in Neonates. By A Couture and C Veyrac, pp. 354, 2001 (Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg, Germany), £132.00 ISBN 3-540-64463-6
J McHugo
This is an excellent text written by experts. It is based on the authors' extensive personal experience. The text is clearly and concisely written, well illustrated by numerous images with clear diagrams and comprehensive references.
The introductory chapters outline precisely the techniques required to perform Doppler studies of the neonatal brain. There follows a chapter detailing normal colour and Doppler appearances and variation with gestational age.
Chapters 39 deal with abnormal clinical situations, ranging from haemorrhage in the pre-term infant to infections and venous thrombosis in the term infant.
In summary, this is an excellent book that should be widely read and available as a reference source for those involved in imaging the neonatal brain. It should encourage the more widespread use of Doppler imaging of the brain.
