This 246 page book is aimed at candidates for the MRCPCH and FRCR. The book begins with a basic introduction on how to interpret a chest radiograph followed by a chapter on the different imaging modalities applicable to children including an excellent section on nuclear medicine and investigation of urinary tract infections. The majority of the book is devoted to 100 cases with short case histories and investigations and a radiological case with, on the subsequent page, an extensive explanation as well as a "Radiology hot list" and "Clinical hot list" explaining the key points.
The cases are generally very good and of an appropriate standard but, as with many books like it, the reproductions are often not as good and make the subtle abnormalities hard to detect.

From the radiological perspective the early chapter entitled "Rules and Tools" has information well known to trainees in radiology. The case studies are well chosen, covering the entire spectrum of paediatric radiology and including all imaging modalities. To a radiologist the Clinical hot list is at least as valuable as the Radiology hot list. Image reproduction is always difficult and in particular subtle abnormalities on chest radiographs can be extremely difficult to see, but the cases in general have been well chosen so that the abnormalities are clearly visible and an appropriate diagnosis can almost always be reached. Whilst most of the radiographs used for the cases are of an appropriate size, some of the smaller reproductions exemplifying the answers are more difficult to view.
Before looking at this book this reviewer was rather sceptical that any text could address postgraduate exams in two disciplines, however, this in one of the best paediatric radiology books for the paediatric membership currently available and contains almost all the paediatric radiology that would be expected in the Radiology Fellowship in its current format.
