This latest multi-author volume from Springer-Verlag is a timely contribution to the fast evolving technique of multislice CT, which is rapidly finding its way into modern radiology practices.
The first chapters cover the technical aspects of multidetector CT, although there is a slight bias towards the Siemens Somatom scanner rather than others on the market! The chapters on the clinical applications of multislice CT are particularly useful for those who are new to this technique. The applications in the abdomen are particularly well covered, including useful chapters on multislice CT of the liver and pancreatic tumours. The chapters on CT of the small bowel with coronal MPRs of CT enteroclysis and CT colonography succinctly review the latest information on these evolving techniques. The role of multislice CT in assessing rectal tumours is also well reviewed.
There are brief sections on cardiac applications and a timely review of CT pulmonary angiography, a technique that is proving only too popular with clinicians.
CT angiography is given good coverage and there is even a chapter from Japanese authors on CT fluoroscopy.
This small multi-authored volume is a good introduction to multislice CT for those starting up this new service and will be profitably read by all staff interested in this new emerging technique.
