This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

It is well known that the focal spot size in an imaging system is one of the major factors which determine the resolution. In mammography systems very high resolution is required to visualize small microcalcifications of the order of 100 µm or less [1]. This has led to the requirement for smaller foci, e.g. less that 0.5 mm as specified by the Department of Health (DoH) in the UK [2].
