It is never appropriate to advise against the legitimate pursuit of safety but it is occasionally necessary to point out possible pitfalls.
Pratt and Shaw [1] give a thought provoking analysis of factors affecting the dose to the lens of the eye during cardiac catheterization. However, before readers jump to too many conclusions over the risks of eye doses during such procedures and the apparently large variation between operators and centres, they should note an important feature of the way in which the "doses" in Table I in that paper are presented.
