There seems little question that future directions in radiotherapy will involve altered or customized fractionation schedules (Cooper, 1990). Recent interest in accelerated fractionation and hyperfractionation, high dose-rate brachytherapy, and the search for predictive assays for tumour proliferation all exemplify this trend.
