This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

Herniation of viscera through the foramen of Winslow comprises 0.08% of all hernias, with caecal involvement in nearly a third (Valenziano et al, 1987). Due to the difficulty in diagnosis, only 10% are diagnosed on plain films prior to surgery (Okhuma & Miyazake, 1977); therefore, other imaging methods are being utilized to assist in the diagnosis. This example of caecal herniation through the foramen of Winslow was diagnosed by dynamic abdominal computed tomography (CT) and its important diagnostic points are reviewed.

A 64-year-old woman presented with 12-hour history of shortness of breath and chest pain. Vital signs and laboratory studies were normal.

Key Words: Internal hernia • Foramen of Winslow • Colon • Computed tomography
