Radiation protection associated with well woman breast cancer screening

This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

Moores and Henshaw's letter (1992) suggests that the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHS BSP), is a research project. The NHS BSP is, in fact, an accepted health programme based on established policies and its specific purpose is to diagnose breast cancer early, thus reducing mortality in the target population by 25%. While it is not in itself research, as it is the first national breast screening programme in the world, it naturally generates various research projects and questions arise which are best answered by research. Such issues, and other matters of policy are considered in the first instance by the Department of Health Breast Screening Advisory Committee, chaired by Professor Martin Vessey.

Received for publication July 28, 1992. Accepted for publication September 1, 1992.
