In their letter on this topic, Hart and Shrimpton (1991) have highlighted a problem in the assessment of radiographic dose and comparison with the recently published guideline doses (NRPB, 1990). The problem is the variation in patient build and its affect on skin dose. They note that in the NRPB survey (Shrimpton et al, 1986) the range of mean patient weight for each room varied by about ± 10 kg around an average of 70 kg.
Received for publication August 27, 1991. Accepted for publication October 3, 1991.
