New initiatives from the Department of Health, the requirements of the Ionising Rediations (Protection of Persons Undergoing Diagnosis or Treatmen) Regulations 1988(Statutory Instrument No.778 of 1988), the Health Services Management Circular HC(89)18, and the working document from the CEC study group on Quality Criteria for Diagnostic Radiographic Images published in February 1989 have led to the need for a reapperaisal of the extent to which rare earth screens are used in the UK and of the diagnostic quality of the images obtained with them.
