Gray Laboratory of the Cancer Research Campaign, Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood, Middlesex HA6 2RN
This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.
In Scott's (1987) letter in the October issue of BJR he asked "Is a tumour an early-responding tissue?" and emphasized the difficulties of deriving
/β ratios for tumours. He questioned the clinical implications of the findings of Williams et al (1985), who reviewed the literature and found relatively high values of
/β, resembling those of early reacting tissues. Williams et al had only considered experiments where reoxygenation was minimized by the use of clamping, hyperbaric oxygen or misonidazole, and they were aware that proliferation in the tumour could lead to decreased values of
/β.
Received for publication January 1, 1988.
