This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

In 1967 Dixon et al reported a case of barium retention in the caecum two years after barium meal and barium enema examinations in the absence of any organic pathology of the colon other than moderate inflammation in the caecal wall adjacent to the retained barium. They named the phenomenon "caecal bariolith".

In this report we describe a similar case of retained barium in the caecum with superficial stercoral ulceration in the adjacent caecal mucosa.

Received for publication July 1, 1984.
