This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

Ultrasound examinations of the thyroid and parathyroid glands are becoming more frequent. Although contact scanning is still preferred by some, most ultrasonographers employ a water bath. The conventional water bath consists of a metal frame with a plastic or polythene sheet. This costs £368 and is somewhat cumbersome to use. The unit described below is very light, inexpensive and easy to use. Furthermore, the design could be modified to make a purpose-built water bath for use elsewhere.

Received for publication October 1, 1980. Revision received January 1, 1981.
