An aid to barium meal examinations in infants

I. Hyde, F.R.C.P.(E)., F.R.C.R. and Brenda Danby, H.D.C.R.

Department of Paediatric Radiology, Southampton General Hospital

This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

The major problem encountered in performing barium meal examinations in infants lies in persuading the patient to suck the opaque medium in all positions without spillage. This is made more difficult by the necessity to bring the intensifier tube as close to the patient as possible. A solution has been found by using a comforter, which is a dummy teat (Fig. 1), into which is introduced the tip of a Foley catheter.

Received for publication August 1, 1980.
