Angiographic features of inflammatory fibrous histiocytoma

In the available literature we could find no report of the angiographic features of inflammatory fibrous histiocytoma. An example is described in a patient on whom angiography was performed.

In a 62-year-old man a tumour was palpable in the left mesogastrium. Left renal arteriography, superior mesenteric arteriography and retrograde aortography were performed. The angiographic examination demonstrated a large, well encapsulated tumour in the left retroperitoneal space, which displaced the left kidney upwards. The main feeding artery of the tumour was the third lumbar artery. Inside the tumour and on its surface there were many fine arteries, but no typical "tumour vessels." During the intermediate phase a homogeneous stain of the whole tumour was evident (Figs. 1 and 2). On the basis of the angiographic examination we were not able to determine the nature of the tumour.
