Text Book of Nuclear Medicine: Clinical Applications. By A. F. G. Rocha and J. C. Harbert, pp. xvi + 495, 1979 (Lea and Febiger, Philadelphia) £21·00. ISBN 0–8121–0648–2

This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

As a companion volume to the basic science text book under the same editorship, this book sets out to emphasize the clinical aspects of nuclear medicine. To this end the uses of radionuclides as tracers for in-vivo assays have largely been omitted, only being discussed as applied to the thyroid, perhaps a somewhat arbitrary line but one that reflects current practice rather accurately. However the in-vivo tracer assays for water and electrolyte spaces and their dynamic uses in cardiology have been retained, so that the text by no means concentrates exclusively on the imaging aspects of nuclear medicine. Indeed established therapeutic applications of non-closed source isotopes are also carefully covered for the thyroid and in polycythaemia.
