The classic angiographic appearance of a stenotic aortic valve is that of "doming". Adequate relief of the obstruction can be obtained with an aortic valvotomy. It should be stressed, however, that even in the absence of an haemodynamically significant gradient, "doming" of the aortic valve persists over many years and is explained by the presence of an anatomically bicuspid valve.
