This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

The aim of this book is to place ultrasound in its clinical perspective as one of the many diagnostic tools which may help the clinician. Several of the 45 contributors to its 31 chapters have been successful in doing this, but on the whole the book does not achieve its aim.
