The use of the fibre optic recorder in ultrasonic imaging

D. F. Street, M.B., B.S., D.M.R.D.

Orsett Hospital, Grays, Essex RM16 3EU

This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

Ultrasonic imaging techniques are now firmly established as routine investigations in many radiological departments. The majority of commercially produced scanners at present in use employ storage oscilloscopes for both viewing and photography. These are satisfactory for most routine obstetric examinations where a clearly defined image permitting accurate measurement is desirable. The contours of large organs can also be well delineated by this method but tissue detail cannot be displayed. Grey scale techniques were developed to overcome this and a variety of applications has been described mainly by Kossoff and his colleagues (Kossoff, 1972; Kossoff et al., 1974), and by Taylor et al. (1973; 1974; 1975; 1976).

Received for publication April 1, 1976. Revision received September 1, 1976.
