New X-ray Patent Specifications

In apparatus of the kind in which the H.T. transformer and the ray-tube are enclosed in a common casing, the secondary coil of the transformer lies in an insulating body, the surface of which is enclosed in an earthed conductive coating, and the high potential conductor is carried out through insulating material passing through the earthed surface. As shown in Fig. I, the iron core 12 of the transformer is supported by the casing 11 and carries the primary coil surrounded by two insulating reels 14, 15 in which are wound the two sections 16, 17 of the secondary coil, whose innermost and outermost windings have respectively the highest, and earth potential. The exposed surfaces of the reels are metallised, or metal-jacketed, and earthed. The high potential leads are brought out to the ends of the ray-tube 22 through insulators 18, 19 which are integral with or fixed to the reels 14, 15, and surround at their ends the terminals of the tube. The reel 14 carries also a separate winding for heating the tube cathode.
