Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Hammersmith Hospital, Du Cane Road, London W.12
In 64 patients with suspected pancreatic disease, hypotonic duodenography was carried out at the end of a period of secretion testing. Of the 12 patients with obstructive jaundice, five showed carcinoma at duodenography and this was confirmed at laparotomy. Of the seven remaining patients, in six the duodenograms were normal. In one patient carcinoma was wrongly suspected. In only three of the seven patients with proven chronic pancreatitis did the hypotonic duodenogram suggest the diagnosis.
