This text-book of X-ray diagnosis traditionally known as British Authors was first published in 1938. It has been required reading for generations of radiologists studying for Diploma and Fellowship examination. After overcoming these hurdles, established radiologists have used it as a reference source for every day problems arising in their own departments.
During the lifetime of this book, the role of the radiologist has advanced from a type of "aircraft spotter" to that of an established clinical diagnostician. We should gratefully recognize the contribution of this book and particularly its editors, Dr. Cochrane Shanks and Sir Peter Kerley for such a fundamental change in attitudes.
