Proceedings of the British Institute of Radiology

This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

Orbital venography has been performed in 160 patients presenting with unilateral proptosis and/or a suspected intraorbital space-occupying lesion. The investigation is principally concerned with the demonstration of the intra-orbital causes of proptosis and their differentiation from cases of endocrine exophthalmos with negative dysthyroid tests. In this series there were five possible results of a successfully performed orbital venogram: (1) non-filling of the veins of the affected orbit; (2) normal, symmetrical filling of the venous systems in both orbits; (3) minor displacements of the veins; (4) major displacements of the veins; (5) the demonstration of a pathological venous circulation in the orbit.
