Book Review

P. Armstrong

Radiocontrast Agents, Vols. I and II of Section 76 of The International Encyclopaedia of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Ed. P. K. Knoefel, pp. 691 (illus.), 1971, £20 (2 volume set).

This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

Contrast media rank as one of the most commonly used drugs in clinical practice, and yet it is probably fair to say that most radiologists have relatively little knowledge of the pharmacology of these substances. These elegantly produced volumes form one section of an "encyclopaedia" covering the whole field of pharmacology and therapeutics. The format is that of a standard text-book divided into chapters on specific topics written by an international group of pharmacologists and radiologists. The pharmacological aspects of contrast media are dealt with in some detail, but the chapters intended to inform the pharmacologists of their uses in radiodiagnosis are too simple to be of interest to the radiologists.
