A study of the conditions used for transferring Kodak AR.10 autoradiographic stripping film by water flotation has shown that backgrounds produced by long duration exposures can be reduced by an order of magnitude without loss of sensitivity.
It is well known that the concentration of soluble bromide ions is carefully controlled in photographic emulsions to obtain a desired balance of properties, since excess of bromide has a depressive effect on sensitivity (Sheppard and Wightman, 1931), initial background and background growth on storage (Glafkides, 1958).
