A working party of the Hospital Physicists' Association has reviewed the data for high energy X and
rays published in Supplement No. 10 (1961). It was decided that it was not necessary to review the data for low and medium energy X rays at this time because very little new information has been published for radiation in this quality range since the Supplement was published.
The working party has been fortunate in having the collaboration of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (A.A.P.M.) and the International Atomic Energy Agency in this work. The A.A.P.M. took responsibility for reviewing the data for electron beams (Section 9) and their conclusions are included in this report.
All radiotherapy departments known to the three organisations mentioned were asked to supply depth dose data for review and replies were received from 89 centres. Detailed comparisons were made between the new data and those in Supplement No. 10, and these have shown that while some minor changes are desirable, no extensive modification of the existing data is needed. This conclusion is justified, section by section, in the following paragraphs. The information about the availability of isodose curves in the introduction to Supplement No. 10 is revised in a new section F.
