This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.

George W. Blomfield died suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, July 5, in the Sheffield Royal Hospital. A week earlier he had attended, with many friends and colleagues, the annual meeting of the Faculty of Radiologists at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Surrey Branch, where he had filled his usual interested, active, normal role. None of us realised at that time that we were seeing for the last time one of the leading and most respected figures not only in British but in world Radiotherapy.
