1. The pathogenesis of extra-hepatic portal vein obstruction in non-cirrhotic and in cirrhotic patients is discussed.
2. Clinical features in these patients and methods of investigation are briefly described.
3. The radiological appearances of portal venograms in extra-hepatic portal vein obstruction are described. The different radiological patterns, dependent upon the site of the portal vein obstruction, are analysed.
4. The place of portal venography in the diagnosis of extra-hepatic portal vein obstruction is discussed and so is the differential diagnosis.
