The publicity given recently to the significant contribution made by diagnostic radiology to the radiation received by the community—particularly that delivered to the gonads of individuals before and during the reproductive phase of life—has emphasised the responsibility of the diagnostic radiologist in keeping this radiation dose at a minimum.
