A series of 240 bronchograms in 174 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis using Dionosil Oily is recorded. The medium is easy to administer, gives adequate contrast, and is quickly eliminated. It is relatively non-irritant and non-toxic in amounts up to 30 c.c. for each lung, although 15–20 c.c. are adequate in the average adult. It is well tolerated by patients, and complications are unusual.
It is stressed that bronchography should be carried out expeditiously, and that the medium should be allowed to remain in the lungs for the minimum amount of time.
Bronchography and tomography are complementary examinations. It is helpful to have bronchograms available in deciding where tomographic sections are necessary or advisable.
